Purchasing Low Profile Tires at R&M Foreign Auto Repair

What Are Low Profile Tires?

Low-profile tires are a type of tire with a shorter sidewall height relative to the tire's width. They are often characterized by a wide tread and a reduced aspect ratio, which is the ratio of the tire's sidewall height to its section width. Typically, low-profile tires have an aspect ratio of 50% or lower, with some extreme low-profile tires having an aspect ratio of 40% or less.

The aspect ratio in the context of tire measurements is a percentage that represents the ratio of the tire's sidewall height to its section width. For example, in a tire with a size designation of P225/50R17, the aspect ratio of 50 means that the height of the sidewall is 50% of the tire's width.

These tires are popular for their sporty and stylish appearance, as well as their improved handling and responsiveness on the road. They are commonly used in performance vehicles and sports cars, as they offer better grip and traction during high-speed maneuvers and cornering. The reduced sidewall height can lead to a firmer and more responsive ride, enhancing the vehicle's overall performance capabilities.
